The Brigham Research Institute’s Musculoskeletal Center recently announced the winners of its annual Best Paper Awards. Originally launched in 2013, these awards are intended to recognize the significant contributions that BWH junior faculty and trainees make to the field of musculoskeletal research. Open to all BWH Graduate Students, Post- docs, Instructors and Assistant Professors working in basic, clinical or translational research, these awards were chosen based on the quality, novelty, relevance and scientific and/or clinical impact on musculoskeletal disease with respect to mechanisms, diagnosis, or treatment. This year, the following individuals were selected to receive this $500 award:
- Lisbeth Berrueta, M.D., Ph.D., a Research Associate in Medicine, was awarded for her paper published in the Journal of Cellular Physiology entitled ‘Stretching Impacts Inflammation Resolution in Connective Tissue.’
- Kimberly Johnson, Ph.D, a Research Fellow in Orthopedic Surgery, was awarded for her paper published in Cell Reports entitled ‘A Tissue-Mapped Axolotl De Novo Transcriptome Enables Identification of Limb Regeneration Factors.’
- Bing Lu, M.D., an Assistant Professor of Medicine, was awarded for his paper published in Arthritis Care & Research entitled ‘Dietary Fat and Progression of Knee Osteoarthritis Dietary Fat Intake and Radiographic Progression of Knee Osteoarthritis: Data from the Osteoarthritis Initiative.’
- Jing Yan, Ph.D., a Research Fellow in Medicine, was awarded for her paper published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences entitled ‘Gut microbiota induce IGF-1 and promote bone formation and growth.’
