Discover Brigham Session of the Week: Trauma

Discover Brigham Session of the Week: Trauma

Worldwide more than a billion people, 15% of the population, live with disability and most of disabilities are caused by injuries due to traffic accidents, violence, falls, burns and assault (1). A better understanding of bones – their structure and ability to heal and regenerate – is crucial to reducing this ignominious designation.  At this session, hear from some of the Brigham’s leading bone researchers.  Hear about the use of data to accurately measure bone healing so that medications can be developed to heal broken bones in the same manner that medications are developed for other major ailments.  Also learn about the role of nano-medicine, and nano-drones, to better treat bone injuries.  And research that explores the use of stem cells to advance bone regeneration, with the goal of gaining a deeper understanding of the effects of age, hormone deficiency, and vitamin D deficiency on bone-forming cells.
