English as a Second Language (ESL) Course

Learn Conversational English and Practice Presentation Skills

The Office for Research Careers and the Brigham Research Institute (BRI) are pleased to offer a course on English as a Second Language.  The course is geared toward postdoctoral fellows. Other BWH researchers may apply and will be accepted as space allows.

This course is designed to improve the communication skills of postdoctoral research fellows whose native language is not English to help integrate them into their English-speaking environment. Class instruction will be highly interactive and conversation-based. Native English-speaking teachers will facilitate conversation and other verbal activities encouraging people of all levels to speak English. This will also serve as a chance to get detailed and individual feedback on specific grammar and pronunciation issues.  The class will consist of conversation, interactive activities, and cultural immersion.  There will be ample opportunity for questions, comments and exchanges with other students.  Class size is limited so that each student is able to speak often and receive constructive feedback.

Four course levels will be offered, geared toward the majority of the participants, and based upon the results of placement testing.  Courses will be held onsite at BWH, once weekly.  Specific class assignments will be made after placement testing.  There will be a separate opportunity to complete an application EACH semester. Enrollment in this course is limited.  Contact ORC with questions: bwhorc@partners.org
