Internal applications must include the following information:

  • One page cover letter that includes the name, title, and department of the lead investigator
  • Letter of support from the Division Chief or Department Chair
  • Summary of the proposed project (2-page limit not including references)
  • Biosketch of each major investigator including current and pending support in NIH format

Amount: $300,000/4 years

Indirect Overhead Rate: 8%, BRI will cover difference to 15%
Summary: Based on their performance during their education and training, candidates should demonstrate outstanding promise as contributors in science relevant to human health. Strong proposals will incorporate particularly creative and pioneering approaches.
Charles H. Hood Foundation
Amount: $450,000 over 2 years
Deadline: May 6, 2019 (internal application)
Indirect Overhead Rate: 10%, BRI will cover the difference to 15%

Only ONE internal application from each Department (or Division with in the Dept. of Med.) will be considered for nomination to apply for this limited submission award – please coordinate with your Chair or Chief.
Summary: This Award Program supports outstanding investigators conducting innovative and transformative research in Neonatology or Brain Science and Child Development. The overall goal of the Program remains the funding of translational or clinical research that will improve child health, children’s clinical outcomes or improve health care access, affordability, and quality. Two areas of focus will be considered for the 2020 Major Grants Program: Neonatology or Brain Science and Child Development.
 Please note that research projects that focus on pregnant women and their fetuses will not be considered responsive to this RFA.
Amount: Up to $250,000 direct costs per year for up to 5 years

Summary: Supports outstanding junior scientists with the intellect, scientific creativity, drive, and maturity launch independent research careers and bypass the traditional postdoctoral training period. Note: To be consistent with the updated NIH definition of Early Stage Investigators, eligible clinical training includes medical residency and clinical fellowships.
  • Complete doctoral degree or clinical training between June 1, 2018 and September 30, 2020
  • In non-independent position at time of application
