Interactive Demos, Displays & Discussions

The Brigham Research Institute (BRI) at Brigham and Women’s Hospital will host a “Science Fair” highlighting work being done here at the hospital. This is a great opportunity to learn from the scientists and innovators, themselves, about the work they do across Brigham and Women’s Hospital. On display, will be cutting-edge projects that demonstrate our culture of innovation and discovery. Attendees will be able to see, first hand, the incredible Iron Lung accompanied by a presentation on the history of Polio led by Dr. Jeffrey M. Drazen. They will become engrossed in MRI images and 3D renders of human brain development through research presentations from the Department of Pediatric Newborn Medicine, who is also providing brain science activities such as a pull apart model and a make-your-own-neuron station. Participants will also hear from the Tactical Neurological Team presenting a real-life demonstration of the interactive head-mounted Mixed Reality (MR) Navigation System. Other displays include an introduction to the fundamentals of yoga in 20 minute sessions led by Sat Dir S. Khalsa, medical imaging in virtual reality through the DICOM VR, Zebrafish and their usefulness in hospital research, and, lastly, Gas Man, a computer simulation showing the movement of anesthesia throughout the body.

All the demos, displays, or discussions are taking place in the HBTM Cafe Atrium, except for yoga which will take place in the Linda Joy Pollin Cardiovascular Wellness Center (or called the Shapiro Porch).
