The Cardiovascular, Diabetes & Metabolic Disorders (CVDM) Research Center invites you to participate in its fifth annual obesity incubator session. The goal of this session is to bring together BWH clinicians and researchers whose work and/or interests relate to the field of obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease, to promote cross-collaborative research efforts, and to stimulate new ideas for further investigation as well as to address this challenging public health crisis.

With the goal of promoting vibrant scientific discussions, the first hour will feature talks by select junior investigators in the field of obesity research and will be followed by a presentation by keynote speaker C. Ronald Kahn, MD, Chief Academic Officer, Joslin Diabetes Center.

Following the keynote, there will be an interactive poster session focusing on early stage ideas in the area of obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.

Short Talks Information:

Time: 1:00PM-2:00PM
Place: Carrie Hall Conference Room
Submission Deadline: Monday, February 22nd

  • Only researchers with a rank of assistant professor, instructor or postdoctoral researcher/clinical fellow are invited to submit an abstract to give a short talk (10-12 mins) at the workshop. Abstracts in any area of basic, clinical or translational research related to obesity are welcome.
  • Applicants must work in a BWH-affiliated laboratory
  • Abstracts that are not selected for talks will by default be considered for inclusion in the poster session
  • Successful applicants MUST be available to talk at the workshop on March 4th
  • Awards of $500 will be given to those selected for talks.

Poster Session Information:

Time: 3:00PM-4:00PM
Place: Cabot Atrium
Submission Deadline: Monday, February 22nd

  • Participation and eligibility will be limited to the first 30 qualified applicants and accepted on a first come, first served basis.
  • Both basic and clinical research posters are equally welcome.
  • Posters focusing on early stage ideas, preliminary or current work and posters describing novel hypotheses in obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease will be preferred.
  • Submitting author must be in attendance at the poster session to present their poster.
  • An author may only present one poster.
  • The applicant or co-investigator must have a Brigham affiliation.

Cash prizes
: Prizes of $500 will be awarded to the selected poster winners based on a pre-event and live judging.

How to Submit:

  • Please submit an abstract of your talk or poster (limit 250 words) electronically via this online submission form by 11:59PM EST on Monday, February 22nd.

Additional Rule and Information:

  • Posters selected for presentation will be notified by February 23, 2015.
  • In order to qualify for an award, the presenting author must be in attendance at the poster session to present their research. No proxies!
