Discover Brigham Recap

Discover Brigham Recap

We want to thank everyone who took part in Discover Brigham 2019. We truly appreciate all of the staff, patients, panelists, poster presenters, volunteers, demos and everyone around the hospital who worked hard to make it such a special day. A special keynote address given by Kyu Rhee, MD, MPP, to kick off the event, and in the introduction of Dr. Rhee and welcome remarks, Betsy Nabel, MD, president of Brigham Health, set a tone of excitement for the day.

We hope you were inspired and learned something new at one of the many sessions during Discover Brigham (What Did You Discover at Discover Brigham?). Each one was unique and interesting in its own way, whether it was introducing the promise of blood cancer treatment through CAR T-cell therapy, or revealing the applications of a Central African plant that produces vital blood components. Sessions also addressed more personal situations, such as preventative genomics, during which patients were present on the panel to discuss their experiences with this transformative medicine. You can read further in-depth coverage of these and more in Clinical and Research News.

Ninety-nine posters spanned throughout the hospital, with scientists presenting their research that ranged from basic to translational to clinical to population science. Seven interactive demos were also stationed throughout the Brigham, allowing attendees to practice yoga, check out the inner-workings of medical emergencies in space, and learn more from the inspiring multi-media exhibit known as Bespoke Bodies.

At the awards ceremony, we recognized five Research Excellence Award winners and one Connors-BRI Women’s Health & Gender Biology Excellence Award.
